New Way to Block Human Papillomavirus Discovered
Researchers at the Yale Cancer Center (YCC) in the USA have discovered a new biological approach that can stop Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection, which happens to be the primary cause of many types of cancers.
The New Approach to Block HPV
- The new method targets the entry path adopted by HPV for entering into the cells.
- An HPV protein called L2 contains a segment known as a ‘cell-penetrating peptide’ (peptides are short chains of two or more amino acids) which sticks through the membrane of the endosome into the cell’s interior.
