National Science Day: Popularising Science

Every year, 28th February is celebrated as National Science Day in India in commemoration of the discovery of‘Raman Effect’by the celebrated Indian Physicist, Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman in 1928, which won him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.

  • The Government of India, accepting the recommendation of National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), in 1986, declared February 28 as National Science Day. The first National Science Day was celebrated on February 28, 1987.
  • The basic objective of celebration of National Science Day is to propagate the message of importance of science and its application among the people.
