Israel’s Iron Dome Aerial Defence System
Israel’s Iron Dome aerial defence system was in news during the recent conflict between Israel and Palestine wherein both sides took to air strikes. Interceptor missiles from the Iron Dome successfully shot down hundreds of rockets fired from Gaza.
The Iron Dome
- It is a multi-mission system capable of intercepting rockets, artillery, mortars, aircraft, helicopters and UAVs over short ranges of up to 70 km.
- It includes a radar and Tamir interceptor missiles that track and neutralise rockets or missiles aimed at Israeli targets.
- Inducted into the Israeli Air Force in 2011, the Iron Dome is manufactured by Rafael Advanced Defence Systems ....
