10% Hike in Ballot Spending Cap Accepted by Government
- The Ministry of Law & Justice on October 19 has notified an amendment in Rule 90 of Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961 enhancing the existing expenditure limit by 10 per cent. This increase of 10 per cent will be applicable with immediate effect in ongoing elections.
- Over a month ago, the EC had recommended a 10% increase in expenditure for all elections to be held during the COVID-19 pandemic, keeping in mind the problems that candidates may face while campaigning under the various COVID protocol laid down by the poll panel.
