- The UN Security Council has recommended Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for a second fiveyear term as chief of the world organisation beginning January 1, 2022.
- India had supported to Guterres for his candidature as chief of the world body for a second term.
- Guterres is the first former head of government to become Secretary- General, and the first secretary general born after the establishment of the United Nations. He was Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002.
