India Approves Rs. 54,000 Cr Defence Acquisitions

On 20th March 2025, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved capital acquisition proposals worth over Rs. 54,000 crore to enhance the capabilities of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
- The Indian Army will receive upgraded 1,350 HP engines for T-90 tanks, improving mobility in high-altitude regions.
- The Indian Navy is set to procure indigenous Varunastra torpedoes, strengthening anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
- The Indian Air Force will acquire advanced Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) aircraft for enhanced surveillance and combat effectiveness.
- The approvals align with the Ministry of Defence’s initiative to mark 2025 as the ‘Year of Reforms’ in defence procurement.
- New streamlined acquisition guidelines have been introduced to reduce procurement timelines and improve efficiency.
