Defence Ministry Signs Deal for Advanced Radios

On 20th February 2025, the Defence Ministry signed a Rs. 1,220 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in New Delhi to procure 149 Software Defined Radios for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).
Key Points:
- High-Tech Communication: The state-of-the-art radios will provide secure voice communication and high-speed data transfer for the ICG.
- Enhanced Operational Capability: These radios will improve situational awareness, maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, and environmental protection.
- Joint Force Interoperability: The new systems will enhance coordination between the ICG and Indian Navy for joint operations.
- Support for Atmanirbhar Bharat: The contract aligns with India’s self-reliance initiative, boosting domestic manufacturing of military-grade communication systems.
- Employment and Skill Development: The procurement is expected to generate jobs and foster expertise in advanced defence technology.
