PM Launches Compressed Bio-Gas Plants in Assam

On 2nd October 2024, Prime Minister (PM) inaugurated the construction of four compressed bio-gas (CBG) plants by Oil India Ltd in Assam, promoting sustainable energy on Swachh Bharat Diwas.
- The plants will be located in Guwahati, Jorhat, Sivasagar, and Tinsukia, contributing to Assam's renewable energy sector.
- This initiative is part of a nationwide groundbreaking ceremony for CBG plants aimed at creating a cleaner, eco-friendly energy landscape.
- Oil India Ltd, in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, aims to set up 25 CBG plants by 2024-25 through public sector investments or private partnerships.
- These CBG plants will convert agricultural waste and biomass into energy, reducing carbon emissions and supporting rural development.
- The initiative aligns with India's broader goal of achieving energy self-sufficiency and reducing dependency on fossil fuels.
