CSIRT - Power Facility Launched to Enhance Cybersecurity

  • 26 Sep 2024

On 23rd September 2024, Union Minister inaugurated the COMPUTER SECURITY INCIDENT RESPONSE TEAM – POWER (CSIRT–POWER) facility in New Delhi, marking a significant advancement in safeguarding India's power infrastructure.

  • The inauguration of the CSIRT-Power facility is viewed as a crucial step toward protecting the national power infrastructure, a vital component of the nation's overall framework.
  • The CSIRT-Power is designed to be more than just a response facility; it aims to serve as a fortified defense against the continuously evolving cyber threat landscape targeting the power sector.
  • Current sub-sectoral Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) in the power sector lack the necessary resources and authority to effectively address cybersecurity incidents, necessitating the establishment of CSIRT-Power.
  • With the increasing digital transformation in the power sector, the attack surface has expanded, leading to heightened vulnerabilities that CSIRT-Power aims to address through specialized coordination and support.
  • The initiative is part of the Ministry of Power’s 100-day action plan, developed in accordance with the National Cyber Security Policy and in collaboration with CERT-In, to create a dedicated cybersecurity team for the power sector.
