CAG of India Takes Over ASOSAI Chairmanship

On 25th September 2024, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, Girish Chandra Murmu, officially took over as the chairperson of the Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) for the term 2024-2027.
- CAG Murmu noted that the 16th Assembly of ASOSAI has expanded to include a total of 48 Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) from various countries.
- The Assembly brought together approximately 200 delegates from 42 countries, including heads of 22 SAIs, marking a pivotal moment in enhancing regional cooperation in public auditing.
- The focus of the Assembly is on promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance among member states.
- Prior to the Assembly, several working-level meetings were conducted, including the 5th ASOSAI Grant Committee meeting and discussions on strategic planning and capacity development.
- Key discussions were held regarding the mid-term review of ASOSAI’s Strategic Plan (2022-2027) and the creation of three new working groups focused on State-Owned Enterprises, IT Audit and Data Analytics, and Regional and Municipal Audit.
- The ASOSAI Capacity Development Committee and Task Force on ASOSAI Regulation also convened during this period to discuss important regulatory matters.
