India Commits 4 Crore HPV Vaccine Doses to Indo-Pacific

On 22nd September, 2024, India pledged $7.5 million to provide 4 crore doses of HPV vaccines and cervical cancer detection kits in the Indo-Pacific, as part of a collaborative initiative launched at the Quad Leaders’ Summit.

- Vaccine Commitment: India, alongside Australia, Japan, and the US, committed to a program that includes providing vaccines to prevent HPV infections, which are linked to cervical cancer.
- Screening Methodology: India offered its cost-effective Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid method for cervical cancer screening as a scalable model for the Indo-Pacific, enabling early detection without advanced lab facilities.
- Collaboration with Serum Institute: The Serum Institute of India, in partnership with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and the Quad, will support the distribution of up to 4 crore HPV vaccine doses to the region.
- Support for Treatment Capacity: India will also provide support for radiotherapy treatment and capacity building for cancer prevention in the region, enhancing healthcare collaboration.
