On 17th September, 2024, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) elected State Minister Atishi as the Chief Minister designate of Delhi, succeeding Arvind Kejriwal, who is set to resign on 17th September.

Arvind Kejriwal will meet Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena at 4.30 p.m. on September 17, 2024, to tender his resignation and pave the way for Atishi’s appointment as the new Chief Minister.
Delhi CM proposed Atishi as his successor during a meeting with AAP legislators, who unanimously accepted the decision.
The resignation follows Kejriwal’s release from prison and his call for an early Assembly election to allow Delhi residents to vote on the integrity of the AAP government.
Atishi is set to become Delhi’s third woman Chief Minister, marking a significant moment in the city's political history.
