India-Oman Joint Exercise AL NAJAH V

An Indian Army contingent started the 5th edition of the India-Oman Joint Military Exercise AL NAJAH (September 13-26, 2024), to be held from in Salalah, Oman.

  • The biennial exercise, first held in 2015, alternates between India and Oman; the last edition took place in Rajasthan, India.
  • The Royal Army of Oman’s contingent, also consisting of 60 personnel, will be represented by the Frontier Force.
  • The exercise aims to enhance joint military capabilities, focusing on counter-terrorism operations under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, with operations conducted in a desert environment.
  • Tactical drills include joint planning, cordon and search operations, counter-drone measures, room intervention, and mobile vehicle checkposts.
  • Combined field training exercises simulating real-world counter-terrorism missions have been planned to bolster cooperation and exchange of best practices.
  • AL NAJAH V will strengthen defence cooperation, interoperability, and camaraderie between India and Oman, further enhancing their bilateral relations.
