Odisha Innovator Wins James Dyson Award 2024
- 12 Sep 2024

In September, 2024, Komal Panda, an innovator from Odisha, won the James Dyson Award 2024 for India with her creation, Novocarry, a portable cooling carrier that helps maintain the ideal temperature for insulin and other liquid medications during travel.
- Komal Panda’s innovation, Novocarry, is designed to address the challenge of storing and transporting temperature-sensitive medications like insulin, especially in areas with unreliable electricity.
 - Novocarry utilizes advanced cooling technology to preserve insulin potency even over long distances, ensuring the safety of life-saving medications for diabetic patients.
 - The portable device also features a powerful battery that serves a dual purpose, allowing users to charge other devices, making it a versatile and practical solution for remote and rural areas.
 - Komal’s inspiration for Novocarry came from personal experience, as her father faced difficulties in storing insulin due to the lack of refrigeration at his workplace.
 - According to the World Health Organization, 20% of temperature-sensitive healthcare products are damaged during transportation due to inadequate cold chain infrastructure, a problem that Novocarry aims to solve.
 - Novocarry’s compact and efficient design provides a solution for individuals managing chronic conditions like diabetes, giving them confidence in the stability of their medication.
