Website for Technical Terms in 22 Languages

In September 2024, the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT) launched a website providing technical terms in all 22 official Indian languages, aiming to make scientific and technical terminology accessible across languages.

The newly launched web portal, ‘shabd.education.gov.in,’ is a central repository for technical terms in Indian languages, housing terminologies prepared by various institutions and agencies.
The website currently hosts over 450 dictionaries, amounting to three million words, allowing users to search technical terms across subjects and languages.
Users of the platform can search terms based on language, subject, type of dictionary, and even language pairs, offering a versatile tool for linguistic and technical knowledge.
The website also allows users to provide feedback on the terms, ensuring that the equivalent words prepared by CSTT are continually refined and updated.
This initiative aligns with broader government efforts to deliver technical education, including subjects like medicine and engineering, in Indian languages.
The CSTT, which has been operational since 1960, plays a key role in evolving scientific and technical terminology for Hindi and other Indian languages, alongside publishing textbooks, journals, and glossaries.
The platform is part of ongoing efforts to promote standard terminology in Indian languages, providing an essential resource for government departments, research institutions, and educational bodies.
