On 3rd September, 2024, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has given Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 capital acquisition proposals worth Rs. 1,44,716 crore.

  • Stealth Frigates: Approval for the procurement of seven stealth frigates under Project-17B, with Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) as lead contenders.
  • Future Ready Combat Vehicles: The Army’s FRCVs, a replacement for T-72 and T-90 tanks, will feature superior mobility, multilayered protection, and real-time situational awareness.
  • Air Defence Systems: AoN granted for Air Defence Fire Control Radars (FCR) to enhance detection, tracking, and firing solutions against aerial threats.
  • Coast Guard Enhancements: Approval for Dornier-228 aircraft and Next Generation Patrol Vessels to boost the Indian Coast Guard's maritime surveillance and rescue operations.
  • Indigenous Focus: 99% of the approved proposals will be sourced from indigenous suppliers under Buy (Indian) and Buy (Indian-IDDM) categories.
