India-Singapore Cooperation in Futuristic Areas

On 26th August, 2024, India and Singapore reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen collaboration across various sectors, focusing on emerging and futuristic areas during the second India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR).

  • Enhanced Cooperation Focus: The Indian delegation, led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, discussed six key pillars with Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong. These pillars include Digitalisation, Skill Development, Sustainability, Healthcare & Medicine, Advanced Manufacturing, and Connectivity.
  • 60th Anniversary Commemoration: Both sides also explored plans to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore, alongside discussing regional and global cooperation, particularly within the ASEAN and G20 frameworks.
  • Successful MoUs from First ISMR: The leaders acknowledged that the initial round of ISMR led to the successful conclusion of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in areas such as healthcare, education and skill development, digital cooperation, and the semiconductor ecosystem.
  • ISMR's Unique Mechanism: The India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, a unique mechanism established in September 2022, aims to set a new agenda for the bilateral relations between the two countries, ensuring continuous engagement at the ministerial level.
