Tsung-Dao Lee

On 4th August, 2024, Chinese-American physicist Tsung-Dao Lee, who was the second-youngest recipient of the Nobel Prize in 1957, passed away at his San Francisco home, at the age of 97.

  • Prof. Lee, recognized for his groundbreaking work in particle physics, was hailed as a leading figure in the field by the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute and the China Center for Advanced Science and Technology.
  • He became a U.S. citizen in 1962 and held the position of professor emeritus at Columbia University, New York.
  • His Nobel Prize in Physics in 1957, awarded with Chen-Ning Yang, recognized their work on subatomic particle symmetry, making Lee the second-youngest Nobel laureate at 31.
