July 30th International Day of Friendship

International Day of Friendship: The International Day of Friendship is observed annually on July 30th annually. The day was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

It was back in 1958 when Dr Ramon Artemio Bracho, a Paraguayan-American doctor and surgeon, first proposed the concept of honouring friendships and fostering kindness among nations and individuals.
Later, the World Friendship Crusade, an international civil organisation that encourages friendship and camaraderie, formally adopted July 30 for World Friendship Day in 1959.
