10% Reservation for Former Agniveers in Central Forces
- 12 Jul 2024
Following a decision by Central Home Ministry on July 11th, 2024, the Central Forces announced that they will implement a 10 per cent reservation for former Agniveers and they will be given relaxation in the Physical Efficiency Test.
Key Points
- 10% of constable positions in future recruitments will be reserved for ex-Agniveers, who will also receive age relaxations and exemptions from physical tests.
- The age relaxation will be five years in the first year and three years in subsequent years.
Agnipath Scheme Controversy
- The Agnipath scheme was introduced in June 2022.
- The scheme aims to lower the age profile of military services by recruiting youths aged 17.5 to 21 for four years, with a provision to retain 25% of them for an additional 15 years.
- Opposition parties have criticised the scheme, questioning the future of the 75% who will not be retained.
