On 15th June, 2024, more than 90 countries and organizations gathered in Switzerland for a major conference dedicated to setting out a path toward peace between Ukraine and Russia.

Key Points

  • Aim of Summit: The summit was aimed at creating the broadest possible backing for a process that could help end the war in Ukraine.
  • Absent Countries: Russia was not invited, and China was not present.
  • Joint Statement: The final document focused on issues of nuclear safety, food security and the exchange of prisoners. It calls for Ukrainian control to be restored over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is currently occupied by Russia. It also refers to Russia's invasion as a "war", a label which Moscow has rejected. India, along with several other countries, did not sign the document.
