Lieutenant General has been appointed as the next Chief of the Army Staff and will take charge from June 30th after the present Chief of the Army Staff, General Manoj C Pande will demit office on June 30th, 2024.

Key Points

Currently he is serving as vice chief of the army staff.
He has been honoured with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and three GOC-in-C Commendation Cards.
He was involved in modernising and equipping the largest Indian Army command, where he steered the induction of indigenous equipment as part of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
He was actively engaged in the ongoing negotiations with China to resolve the vexed border issue.
