On June 8th, 2024, Virgin Galactic flew tourists to the edge of space and back aboard its spaceplane.
Key Points
- The spaceplane flew four tourists from Turkish, U.S. and Italian passengers to an altitude of about 55 miles (88.51 km) on a flight lasting slightly more than an hour.
- This is the second commercial spaceflight of 2024.
- The mission took off from and returned to Spaceport America in New Mexico.
- It marked Virgin's VSS Unity spaceplane's final commercial flight which is being retired to make way for the company's new "Delta" class of spacecraft rolling out in 2026.
