India and US Sign MoU to Achieve Net Zero Emission Goal

On 5th January, 2024,the Union Cabinet led by PM has approved an MoU between India and the USA (USAID/India) to support Indian Railways in achieving Net Zero Carbon Emission by 2030.

- Mission Net Zero Carbon Emission by 2030: The MoU aims to aid Indian Railways in reaching this goal by fostering collaboration on technological advancements and sharing knowledge within the railway sector.
- Reducing Fuel Dependency: It intends to diminish reliance on imported fuels like Diesel and Coal by promoting the deployment of Renewable Energy (RE) plants, fostering RE technology, and bolstering local ecosystem and product development.
- Focus Areas: The MoU facilitates modernizing utilities, implementing advanced energy solutions, integrating regional energy markets, involving the private sector, conducting training and workshops on Renewable Energy, energy efficiency, and knowledge sharing.
- Past Collaborations: USAID/India has previously collaborated on rooftop solar deployment across railway platforms.
- The MoU focuses on long-term energy planning, developing an Energy Efficiency Policy, clean energy procurement planning, regulatory support, and promoting e-mobility for Indian Railways.
- Event Collaborations: Both parties will organize events, conferences, and capacity-building programs in identified areas of focus.
